Understanding E-Commerce Metrics

Landed Cost

Total cost to get the product into your hands: product cost + shipping + duties + packaging. This is your baseline cost.

Gross Profit

Revenue minus the direct cost of goods sold. This excludes marketplace fees and other variable costs.

Gross Margin %

Gross profit divided by revenue. Shows percentage of each sale that covers product costs. Healthy: 50%+

Net Profit

Revenue minus ALL costs (product, shipping, fees, fulfillment, advertising, other). This is what you actually keep.

Net Margin %

Net profit divided by revenue. Shows what percentage of each sale is actual profit. Healthy: 10%+

ROI (Return on Investment)

Net profit divided by landed cost. Shows your return on the cash you invested in inventory. Higher is better.
